Jungle Island opened in 1936 under the name Parrot Jungle, founded by animal trainer Franz Scherr as a sanctuary where parrots could roam freely. It quickly became one of Miami’s most popular attractions, celebrated for its open concept approach to wildlife and lush tropical landscaping.
